Jane joined the field in the 1960’s when the entire field was dominated by men, today the specialty is split 50/50 men and women. Even while researching and developing her thesis, Jane named her chimpanzee subjects as opposed to numbering them, criticized by many, her findings of the groups human traits soon proved her methods successful. Jane continues to be a female trailblazer in all things environmental science, her success and knowledge has changed present day understandings of primate culture and environment, for these reasons Jane has landed amongst Ma’aM Kind’s female heroes.
